My mom and dad have always loved India (it’s my mom’s homeland) and although they moved to Texas from Saudi Arabia when I was nine, they always stuck with the idea that eventually they would retired to India. With this in mind, over the years, they bought a house near my Nana’s in Whitefield and a beautiful plot of land at a place called Jane Farms, in the town of Bugalore.
I’ve visited Bugalore a few times in my life; the first when I was about eight with my parents, aunt, uncle and younger cousins (my Auntie Jenny cracked up us kids by saying Bugalore’s name came from someone with a very bad sinus cold, who was actually trying to ask the locals if he’d arrived in Bangalore).
Since the area is all open plots of land for sale or small vacation huts to rent, there’s not a lot to do other than play on this one cute, little playground. Someone, somewhere has pictures of my cousins and I all sitting on swings there and sliding down the slide. Now, over 15 years later, I brought my own kids here to do the same.
They had a blast on this sweet, colorful Indian playground… come to think of it, we all did. It was great to just chill out for an hour and just play. I’m loving these moments as a mom where I get to act like a total kid again. People give weird looks if they see a 25-year-old alone, giggling and swinging as high as she can – but if you’ve got kids with you, you’re just a fun parent :)
Anyone else out there treating their kids to a romp on a foreign playground? Or as an adult get to visit places you played as a kid? This place already has such happy memories and I imagine we’ll create a ton more if Mum ever does build a home and retire there. Perhaps one day my boys’ kids will be spinning on that same merry-go-round and they’ll be told stories of how Nana played on it as a child. Crazy thought, huh?
(ps) I finally edited down the 30+ gigs of photos we took in India! And I’ve decided that although I could write for a month, use about 20 photos for each post and still have some leftover, I’m going to limit myself to only 2 more posts to wrap up the trip. Hence, this one finally being post 4 of 6 instead of my earlier one’s here, here and here, which had no end in sight haha.
