I absolutely CANNOT believe that summer is officially over. I certainly didn’t feel like it was moving at warp speed, and yet here we are – finished!
Because it was a three-day weekend, my friend and first college roommate, Emma, was able to come down from PA and another college friend Matt drove up from Richmond to celebrate and end summer on a high note.
Emma and I took the boys to meet my DC girls, Amanda and Becca, for a stroll through Eastern Market on Saturday. The boys had so much fun and were completely spoiled with attention. It was great to just hang out with the girls and catch up on all our busy lives.
Sunday, we spent the morning lazing around and then packed up the boys and left the house not knowing exactly where we wanted to go. Emma mentioned that she hadn’t been to any zoo (she now says she meant THIS zoo!) in 12 years, so since we’re FONZ members and get free parking, it was an easy choice.
The boys loved the birds as usual and this time actually got to see a few new animals like the otters and sea lions (did you know that exhibit is open now? It’s actually pretty awesome).
That night we grilled hot dogs and steaks and sat around reminiscing about SCAD. It’s times like this when you know who your close friends are – haven’t seen each other in months and yet it’s as if you saw them less than a week ago!
Monday we decided was the day to really celebrate summer and went to the Nationals vs. Cubs game. It was actually the first baseball game the boys attended (not counting in utero when I was about 6 months preggers).
We were an hour late since we lingered over lunch, which actually worked out well considering one of the ushers let us sit in the handicap row (no one was using it and we had the double stroller for the boys). Turns out it’s the perfect place to watch the game! Great view, right by the beer, food and bathrooms – not much more you can ask for, right?
Oh, by the way, the Nats won… in fact, they pretty much flattened the Cubs. Would be cool if the Nats ended up in the World Series this year!
So what did you get up to for Labor Day weekend? Anyone else think that a trip to both Eastern Market and the zoo, grilling with friends and attending a baseball game is the ultimate way to say bye to summer? Yeah, it was pretty dang sweet. Looking forward to Fall in all of its pumpkin-picking, road-tripping, leaf-turning, turkey-eatin’ glory!
